Information

Baby Crawl @ 12:30pm
5th Grade @ 1:00pm
8th Grade @ 3:00pm
Cost

There is no entry fee, but each participant and coach must wear a Madathon armband at all times during Madathon – NO EXCEPTIONS! Armbands may be purchased at the coaches meeting on May 5 or on All Schools Day at Madathon. Participants wearing anASD button at the commencement of Madathon will receive a free armband.

Teams

Each team should have at least 8 participants. The Madathon games are designed for 8 kids, but will be modified to accommodate larger teams. We recommend that each team have at least one “alternate” so that if someone is sick or unavailable for any reason, the rest of the team has enough people to participate. Alternates will be included and participate in Madathon games. Any combination of boys and girls is acceptable.

All participants should be 5th grade students at the same school. You must contact the Madathon Chairperson before including a team member from a different school. Schools may have more than one team. Please contact the Madathon Chairperson if you need to alter these team arrangements to accommodate class sizes or for any other reason.

No one No one will be left out!

Warning

Participants and coaches will get wet and dirty. The Madathon events are messy! Please dress appropriately. No sharp objects. No white t-shirts.

Volunteers

Each team must provide at least one adult volunteer to help the Madathon Committee, either on Thursday afternoon/evening, Friday morning set up, or for cleanup after Madathon (usually not a good option for 5th grade volunteers as cleanup occurs approximately 2 hours after the 5th grade Madathon concludes). Teams without adult volunteers will not participate – NO EXCEPTIONS! It takes many hands to fill over 1000 water balloons, move equipment, and more – all hands on deck, please!

Coaches

Each team should have at least one adult coach. The coach is responsible to organize the team, including getting the team registered, attending the mandatory coaches meeting on May 5, finding at least one adult volunteer for the team, making sure all participants have arm bands, and controlling behavior of participants before and during Madathon. Older siblings are occasionally approved as coaches, but you must contact the Madathon Chairperson before using a coach that is not an adult.

Questions

Madathon Chairperson, Leslie Buettgenbach, may be contacted by e-mail atlstanford1979@gmail.com if you have questions or to make the inquiries described above.

Button Hunt Clues

Clues will start at 12am starting May 2nd.

Stay tuned below for clues as they are revealed every day, starting May 2nd.

Medallion & Virtual Button Clues
Clue 1
The hunting grounds are the same 900 or so square miles as always. If it's private property, the medallion is not there. The home places for Bulldogs, Swedes and Tigers are also no hunting zones.
Medallion Button Clues
Clue 2 Medallion
Your search will take you to open spaces, with shaded places.
Clue 3 Medallion
Deer and antelope don't play here often but people do, at least in the general vicinity.
Clue 4 Medallion
In Kansas, there are many places that don't quite sync up. Where you need to look is not one of them, in two ways.
Clue 5 Medallion
McPherson County business history will be quite helpful in your hunt. Focus on two of them.
Clue 6 Medallion
As you hunt, you may have to move a few leaves. Not many but just a few will do the trick.
Clue 7 Medallion
As you look to the northern galaxy, look for a sign to the past. Beneath that sign is something for your financial future.
Virtual Button Clues
Clue 2 Virtual
The place you are looking for is very big, from all of it you can see galaxies, and from parts of it view possibilities that became realities. Both are somewhat weather dependent though.
Clue 3 Virtual
The Virtual Button has been found! Congrats to Jo Unruh! The number four factors into this place. The parts will add up to the whole.
Clue 4 Virtual
Something very rare came to this place 30 years ago.
Clue 5 Virtual
What you're doing now was once the big attraction. On a much smaller scale it can still be done today.
Clue 6 Virtual
A knife didn't go through it, but once upon a time a hot fork did. Today it's in parts because of it.
Clue 7 Virtual
Once upon a time, it was as important as a place two counties west. Today, work continues to bring some of it back.
