Information

Baby Crawl @ 12:30pm
5th Grade @ 1:00pm
8th Grade @ 3:00pm
Cost

There is no entry fee, but each participant and coach must wear a Madathon armband at all times during Madathon – NO EXCEPTIONS! Armbands may be purchased at the coaches' meeting on May 4 or on All Schools Day at Madathon. Participants wearing an ASD button at the commencement of Madathon will receive a free armband.

Teams

Each team should have at least 8 participants. The Madathon games are designed for 8 kids, but will be modified to accommodate larger teams. We recommend that each team have at least one “alternate” so that if someone is sick or unavailable for any reason, the rest of the team has enough people to participate. Alternates will be included and participate in Madathon games. Any combination of boys and girls is acceptable.

All participants should be 5th-grade students at the same school. You must contact the Madathon Chairperson before including a team member from a different school. Schools may have more than one team. Please contact the Madathon Chairperson if you need to alter these team arrangements to accommodate class sizes or for any other reason.

No one will be left out!

Volunteers

Each team must provide at least one adult volunteer to help the Madathon Committee, either on Thursday afternoon/evening, Friday morning set up, or for cleanup after Madathon (usually not a good option for 5th-grade volunteers as cleanup occurs approximately 2 hours after the 5th-grade Madathon concludes). Teams without adult volunteers will not participate – NO EXCEPTIONS! It takes many hands to fill over 1000 water balloons, move equipment, and more – all hands on deck, please!

-Coaches

Each team should have at least one adult coach. The coach is responsible for organizing the team, including getting the team registered, attending the mandatory coaches meeting on May 5, finding at least one adult volunteer for the team, making sure all participants have arm bands, and controlling the behavior of participants before and during Madathon. Older siblings are occasionally approved as coaches, but you must contact the Madathon Chairperson before using a coach who is not an adult.

Spirit

Madathon is not a competition! It is intended as a fun event for all McPherson County 5th graders. Events change from year to year. Madathon equipment is not loaned to teams for practice. Prizes may be awarded to teams based on sportsmanship, spirit, and enthusiasm. Have fun!!

-Warning

Participants and coaches will get wet and dirty. The Madathon events are messy! Please dress appropriately. No sharp objects. No white t-shirts.

Questions

Madathon Chairperson, Leslie Buettgenbach, may be contacted by e-mail at lstanford1979@gmail.com if you have questions or to make the inquiries described above.

Button Hunt Clues

Clues will start at 12am starting May 2nd.

Stay tuned below for clues as they are revealed every day, starting May 2nd.

Medallion & Virtual Button Clues
Clue 1 Both
As you begin your hunt, remember your boundaries, stay off private property, and remember to have your license. This may be important later in the hunt.
Medallion Button Clues
Clue 2 Medallion
Some places have hills, others do not. Hills are not a factor in this year's hunt but things found on some hills could be.
Clue 3 Medallion
History plays a big role in the general area where you should hunt, though not necessarily what you might think.
Clue 4 Medallion
If you look at quadrants, it's possible to be in more than one. The medallion rests in a place that could be considered to have three. Balance isn't a factor for at least some of those.
Clue 5 Medallion: The Medallion Has Been Found!
All Schools Day factors into areas you should be looking, though in some cases not quite.
Virtual Button Clues
Clue 2 Virtual
Different things have been at this site over the years. This thing is relatively new.
Virtual Hunt Location Has Been Found!
Congratulations to Nikolous Rempe, who found the Virtual Location at 2:14 PM Saturday, May 2nd.
